For far too long, Africa's wealth has been siphoned off by foreign interests, while the very people who walk upon lands rich in gold, diamonds, and oil remain in economic chains. But the tides are turning. Burkina Faso’s President, Ibrahim Traoré, is proving to be a revolutionary leader who refuses to let his nation's resources continue lining the pockets of former colonial masters. His latest move? The production of Burkina Faso’s first locally made gold bars, marking a historic shift toward true economic independence.
This is the kind of story that the Western media refuses to report on. They’d rather show images of poverty and conflict than acknowledge the powerful steps African nations are taking toward self-sufficiency. As someone who left the United States and made Ghana my home, I take immense pride in witnessing these revolutionary changes in West Africa. This is about more than gold—it’s about freedom.
Burkina Faso's Gold No Longer Controlled by the West
Two years ago, President Traoré declared:
"Soon, the factories will rise."
And he wasn’t just making empty promises. Burkina Faso first launched a tomato processing plant, proving that self-reliance in agriculture was possible. Now, they've taken an even greater step—the establishment of a gold refinery and the first-ever domestically produced gold bars.
This achievement is monumental. Many African countries possess vast gold reserves, yet few control their own mining operations. Western corporations, from Canada to France, have dominated Africa’s gold industry for decades, extracting massive profits while local populations remain impoverished. But under Traoré’s leadership, Burkina Faso is breaking the cycle.
On January 23, 2024, Traoré inaugurated the first waste processing plant for mining residues, ensuring that even the byproducts of gold extraction benefit the Burkinabé people. No longer will Burkina Faso send its raw gold abroad for processing—this technology was developed locally, proving that Africans can and should control their own wealth.
Breaking Free from the CFA Franc: A Step Toward Monetary Sovereignty
Anyone familiar with West Africa knows that the CFA Franc has been one of the biggest tools of French economic control. Formerly colonized nations like Burkina Faso have been forced to keep a significant portion of their reserves in French banks, which meant that France—not Africa—controlled their monetary policy.
President Traoré is not having it. Burkina Faso has established its own Treasury Deposit Bank, ensuring that the country’s financial reserves are no longer at the mercy of European interests. With gold now being processed within its own borders, Burkina Faso is positioning itself to hedge against external financial manipulation.
This is a power move. This is how nations break free from economic slavery.
Terrorists and Foreign Exploiters Losing Their Grip on Burkina Faso’s Gold Mines
Another major issue Traoré has tackled is the presence of foreign-controlled mining corporations and terrorist groups that have profited from Burkina Faso’s gold sector.
Western companies—such as Canada’s Roxgold and Endeavour Mining—have long extracted gold from Burkina Faso at dirt-cheap costs, while the nation saw little in return. Meanwhile, jihadist groups exploited artisanal mining to fund their terror campaigns. Traoré put an end to that.
In 2023, he banned the export of unprocessed gold, ensuring that all refining happens within Burkina Faso.
In February 2024, he suspended artisanal gold exports, cutting off illegal smuggling routes that funneled wealth to terrorist organizations.
In November 2023, he launched the construction of Burkina Faso’s gold refinery, ensuring the country will have full control over its most valuable resource.
These moves guarantee that Burkina Faso’s wealth will stay in Burkina Faso.
What This Means for Africa’s Future
Traoré’s actions are not just for Burkina Faso—they send a powerful message to all of Africa: It’s time to take back control.
For centuries, European and Western powers have built their wealth on African resources, while Africans themselves were denied economic freedom. But now, leaders like Ibrahim Traoré are setting an example. If Burkina Faso can do it, so can Mali, Guinea, Niger, Ghana, and every other African nation rich in natural resources.
This is what true Pan-Africanism looks like.
The West Won’t Report This—But I Will.
Let’s be real: you won’t see CNN, BBC, or any mainstream Western media outlet covering this story. Why? Because it dismantles the narrative they’ve carefully crafted about Africa—one of dependency, corruption, and chaos.
But the reality is this: Africa is rising.
I left the United States and made Ghana my permanent home because I saw the truth. Black people don’t need to beg the West for opportunities—we need to reclaim what’s ours. I share this story because I want my brothers and sisters in America to see what’s happening. Don’t believe the lies they feed you.
If you’re still on the fence about Africa, wake up. The continent is evolving, and you need to be part of it.
President Ibrahim Traoré is doing what no Western-backed African leader would dare to do—taking full control of his country’s wealth and cutting off the parasites that have been feeding off Africa for too long.
The Future is African
Burkina Faso is no longer a pawn of France. Its gold belongs to its people. Its financial system is being wrested from foreign control. And its leader, Ibrahim Traoré, is proving to be one of the most revolutionary figures in modern African history.
This is the real news you need to know. The Western media may try to ignore it, but we won’t. Burkina Faso’s golden revolution is just the beginning, and Africa’s future has never looked brighter.
Lance, Thank you for sharing this article! We love ❤️ President Ibrahim Traore, the work he is doing and the progress he’s making for Burkina Faso and her people. It is our prayer that other African leaders will follow his example and bring their own countries out of the clutches of outside influences as he has done.
My husband is in Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 working on his carnival band’s portrayal “AFRICAN RISING.” We our Motherland 🌍 and stay informed about what is happening there.
Stay Strong 💪🏾 and Steadfast! ❤️💯
